We are excited about our partnership with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., and its area member churches. Their first initiative is entitled Time, Talent and Treasure. To address specific school needs, local pastors are asked to encourage their members to consider the following areas of engagement:
- Time: Volunteer as Book Buddies, elementary reading tutors.
- Talent: Retired librarians to mentor newly assigned librarians.
- Treasures: Financial contributions to purchase library books.
Time – Potential Book Buddies will complete a JPS volunteer application indicating which elementary school they’re interested in supporting. Principals will review applications. Approved applications will be invited for training and assignment. Applications should be returned to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Talent – Interested retired Librarians will complete a JPS volunteer application indicating which school they’re interested in supporting. Our lead librarian, Mrs. J. Whisenton will review applications and forward approved applications to their principal of the school requested. Volunteers will be invited to in-service training and review of policies and procedures pertaining to JPS libraries, with assignments to follow. Applications should be returned to email@example.com.
Treasures – Financial contributions to purchase library books are requested. JPS has entered into a partnership with The Mackin Company for the books needed for each middle school. This company will catalog all books prior to shipment, so they will arrive at the school ready to be placed on the shelves. Churches may select a specific school to receive this support.
Donations may be sent to Jackson Public Schools, the Office of Partners in Education, which has established a restricted funds account for this initiative. Download a list of books for each middle school.
