Summer School

  • The Jackson Public School District will offer a tuition-based Summer School for JPS students and non-JPS students.

    High Schools

    Where will summer school be held?

    The high school site is Provine High School (2400 Robinson Road, Jackson, MS 39209.)

    Who may register for summer school?

    Students who have failed a subject.

    When and where should my child register?

    To register for summer school, each student/parent should contact officials at his/her home school.  Registration will be held May 1–24, 2019, at the home school for JPS students. 

    Students who did not attend a JPS school should apply and pay at the summer school site which begins June 3, 2019.  A letter from the principal of the school attended in 2018-2019 must be presented to the summer school principal, indicating permission to attend the JPS summer program, and a current report card before enrolling. Priority of assignment to classes will be based upon the date of registration. Registration forms should be completely filled out and the Receipt Number (proof of payment) must be recorded on the registration form.

    What courses will be offered?

    Student requests will determine subjects taught in summer school. No subject area tested courses (Algebra I, U.S. History, Biology, and English 10) will be offered in Summer School for advancement. Students who were enrolled in these courses and failed the course may enroll in the subject area tested courses.

    Exception: Seniors who need either of these courses in order to graduate in the summer of 2019 may be allowed to take these courses, providing the student has passed the state exam(s) or met other graduation pathway options.

    How much does it cost?

    Tuition is $250 for one full unit and $125 for one-half unit. Tuition must be paid for each student. Payment is accepted in cash only. No checks or credit cards will be accepted. All fees are payable at the time of registration. Applications will be accepted only on June 3, 2019, at the summer school site.

    How long will summer school last?

    Summer school lasts from June 3–July 25, 2019. Classes will be held from 7:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. five days per week. There will be no classes on July 1-5, 2019. Classes resume on July 8, 2019.

    Will there be a make-up session?

    A make-up session will be held each term.

    Will there be a graduation date?

    Graduation is scheduled for July 25, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at Provine High School.

    Will transportation and lunches be available?

    Parents will be responsible for transporting students to and from the summer school sites. Lunch will not be provided by the school district.

    Middle Schools

    Where will summer school be held?

    The middle school site is Blackburn Middle School (1311 West Pearl Street, Jackson, MS  39203).

    Who may register for summer school?

    Students who have failed a subject. Students' grades may not be below a 50 and they must not have failed more than two core courses.

    When and where should my child register?

    To register for summer school, each student/parent should contact officials at his/her home school. Registration will be held May 124, 2019, at the home school for JPS students.

    Students who did not attend a JPS school should apply and pay at the summer school site. Registration for non-JPS students begins June 3, 2019.
