Mr. Bruce Sloan

Mr. Sloan is a native of Hattiesburg, MS and a 2008 graduate of the illustrious Hattiesburg High School. Mr. Sloan started his educational career in JPS as an Academic Tutor at Isable Elementary, assisting with grades 2-5 as well as coordinator of school programs and Isable's Stepping With P.R.I.D.E. Step Team. After a year, Mr. Sloan became a 5th grade teacher, teaching all subjects, and was a factor in the success of Isable's B rating for two years consecutively, 2015-2016, 2016-2017. Mr. Sloan then moved to the MS Gulf Coast where he taught 5th Grade ELA for Gulfport School District, again being a benefactor in the success of a B-rating school (2017-2019). He then taught grades 6-8th ELA for Harrison County School District. Mr. Sloan's last year in HCSD was at West Harrison Middle School teaching 7 & 8th grade ELA. Mr. Sloan's 7th grade students combined, scored the highest in the school and aided in creating a B rating for the school. The school's 7th grade students ranked number 11 in the state on the 2022 MAAP ELA Assessment. Mr. Sloan relocated back to Jackson to become Assistant Principal at Republic Charter Schools, overseeing 3rd & 4th grade ELA. He soon moved to Powell Middle School, as Assistant Principal, where he assisted in the change of culture and climate for the school. Mr. Sloan is excited to be joining the Kirksey Middle School family as Assistant Principal, where he plans to bring his wealth of knowledge in ELA and Culture to help move and maintain Kirksey to a C or higher accountability rating.

Mr. Sloan obtained his Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in Reading (K-12) & English (7-12) from Jackson State University. He earned his Masters Degree from Concordia University Nebraska in Educational Leadership (K-12), and his Specialist Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Curriculum & Instruction. Mr. Sloan is currently working on his Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University. 

Mr. Sloan is an advocate for students and teachers. He believes that “Order & Excellence” is the foundation for quality education. Mr. Sloan is thrilled to return to JPS to continue to help mold and educate our future leaders.
