Marguerita Callahan
Hello, my name is Rita Callahan. I enjoy teaching, studying other languages, and creative writing in my free time. As an educator, I always look forward to helping students grow in their knowledge.
I have 29 years of teaching experience in the traditional classroom. I am a highly qualified Mississippi State certified educator, having served learners in private, charter, and public schools. In addition, I conduct online tutoring on various platforms.
My current roles at Cardozo Middle School are Spanish teacher for 7th and 8th graders and learning strategies teacher for 6th and 8th graders.
My lessons are engaging, innovative, and thoughtful of the student. I implement highly effective strategies that engage students and foster their ability to comprehend concepts. For example, I use techniques such as rhymes, word associations, and my favorite – humor. Sometimes, being a little silly can help students loosen up to pave the way for more productive thinking and comprehension.
I strongly believe in the philosophy of mastery teaching and learning. Simply put, mastery means that I have conveyed the learning target in such a way that the learner is able to replicate my knowledge.
Throughout my career, my greatest assets have been my high work ethic and growth mindset, and my personality, through which I draw students’ interest while building relationships and rapport with those learners as well as their parents and guardians.
