  • Northwest Middles School Wins First Place at the 2019 Open Doors Chess Tournament

    March 2019. Casey Elementary and Northwest Jackson Middle were overall school winners of the 2019 JPS Open Doors Chess Tournament. These were repeat wins for both schools. The daylong competition was held in February at the JSU Mississippi e-Center. The tournament drew 130 students in the District's gifted education program which is offered in grades 3-7.

  • C-SPAN's Tour Bus Stops at Northwest

    March 25, 2019. The C-SPAN Tour bus sopped at Northwest and students had the opportunity to tour the bus and learn more about C-SPAN's resources.

  • Important Parent Notification Regarding ActiveParent Maintenance

    The hosting provider for Jackson Public Schools' student information system underwent maintenance for its ActiveParent Portal on March 1, 2019. If your ActiveParent account has been deactivated, you can get a new account by completing an ActiveParent Request Form. This form can be downloaded from the District website, or it can be acquired at your child's school. To download the form, please click on this link and follow the instructions provided.

  • AG Launches "Students against Violence App"

    March 20, 2019. Attorney General Jim Hood launched an app for students struggling with depression, bullying, drug use, and other problems common among teens. The “Students Against Violence” app is a place where students who are struggling with thoughts of suicide or are in a home where there is domestic violence can turn to local and national resources to help them through such situations. The app includes categories for depression/anxiety, self-harm, suicide prevention, youth drug abuse, bullying, school violence, teen dating violence, domestic violence, underage drinking, and electronic cigarettes.
