Department Overview

  • The Office of Exceptional Education Services provides a variety of support services to students with disabilities.  Eligible students may receive services between the ages of three and twenty-one years of age. Schools offer programs that provide academic, behavioral and related service supports in a specialized learning environment. Support services are provided in all district schools. Student identification procedures, achievement testing, programming, instructions and flexible scheduling require the participation of all school partners. Jackson Public Schools District strives to identify and provide an educational benefit to all students with disabilities. Child Find is essential to the identification unaided students and helps sustain the stability and correlation with regular education to deliver appropriate academic and behavioral instruction. Services offered through the Department of Exceptional Education include:

    • Assistive Technology Evaluation and Services 
    • Behavioral Intervention Services 
    • Homebound Services 
    • Language/Speech Services 
    • Occupational Therapy 
    • Physical Therapy 
    • Psychological Services, including pre-school and school-age assessments 
    • Specialized Medical Care

    The Office of Exceptional Education Services is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act — 1997 Reauthorization (IDEA 2004) in the identification, evaluation, eligibility, and individualized educational programming for children with disabilities. Jackson Public School District Office of Exceptional Education governed by State Board Policy 7419.
