Mrs. Vanessa Armstrong

A proud graduate of Jackson Public Schools, Vanessa Lindsey Armstrong has served the scholars of JPS for twenty-nine years.  Beginning in 1992, she served as an English teacher at Bailey Alternative School, and then Siwell Middle School (1996). In 2002, Mrs. Armstrong was employed as an English teacher for Memphis City Schools in Memphis, TN.  After returning to Jackson in 2005, she continued her career as an English teacher, an ELA Interventionist, and Librarian at Siwell Middle.  When Siwell closed in 2020, Mrs. Armstrong became the librarian for Blackburn Middle School.  In this role, she looks forward to supporting all library patrons in their quest for learning, research, and exploration.

Mrs. Armstrong obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from Jackson State University.  She also earned a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

    Mission Statement

    The mission of Blackburn Middle School Library Media Center is to ignite a passion for reading throughout the school, and ensure that all learners can access, process, and communicate information and ideas effectively.  

    Location

    The library media center is located on the first floor near the front or main entrance of the school.

    Hours of Operation

    The library media center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Extended library hours are available upon request. Please note that the library will be closed for special programs and events.

    General Rules and Procedures

    Collection Summation

     Over 10,000 books (including Literature Circles, Classroom Sets, and eBooks)
    •  Over 25 periodicals, including 3 local newspapers
    •  A vast number of VHSs, DVDs, and CDs 
    •  5 Lenovo desktop computers with wireless Internet accessibility 
    •  Online card catalog that allows staff and students access from their classrooms
