Homework Help On-line Guide for Parents

Homework is a very important part of your child's education. Homework provides reinforcement for skills and concepts taught in the classroom and provides opportunities for your child to investigate things that interest him/her. The suggestions, links, and articles below are here to help you and your child complete homework in the most productive, painless way possible.

What are some things I can do to help my child with his/her homework?

  • Make homework a priority. Try to include reading each day!
  • Show an interest in what your child is learning. Make homework and learning at home a positive experience for you and your child.
  • Agree on a plan for bringing home assignments each day. Your child can't complete homework if he/she can't remember the assignment! (Some teachers will send a weekly homework sheet or provide an assignment book.)
  • Agree with your child on a set time for homework each night.
  • Find a set place for your child to do homework every day. Make sure there is plenty of light, a comfortable chair with the proper size table or desk, and adequate supplies such as paper, pencils, and a dictionary.
  • Discourage TV, radios, video games or other sources of noise that may be distracting to your child.
  • Encourage your child to complete the most difficult assignment first.
  • Provide help when needed or asked, but do not complete your child's homework for them.
  • Check your child's homework each day and sign if required.
