Back-to-School Events at JPS Schools
Elementary open houses continue. Dates and times vary by school. Refer to the Elementary Open Houses and Back-to-School Events schedule for specific event dates and times.

Immunizations
According to Jackson Public Schools' Student Immunization policy, all students must meet all Mississippi Department of Health requirements. Beginning with school year 2012-13, all seventh graders must have a recent Tdap vaccination. Refer to the updated Summary of Immunization Recommendations for additional requirements for school aged children.

School Schedules and Calendars
Full school days are generally scheduled as follows:

  • Elementary – 7:45 a.m.-2:20 p.m.
  • Middle – 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • High – 8:20 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The District Calendar page includes scheduled closures, district and state testing days, and conference days for the school year.

Mandatory Dress Code
There is a mandatory dress code for all elementary and middle school students. Please contact your local school for more information regarding the dress code or visit the JPS Mandatory Dress Code page. Also, all students in grades K-12 are required to tuck shirts and blouses in slacks, skirts, and walking shorts. Belts are required on pants with belt loops. Sagging pants are not allowed. Please contact your child’s principal if you have a financial need related to the purchase of uniforms.

Meals
Breakfast and lunch menus are posted each month on the Food Services page. Meal prices are as follows:

  • Breakfast for all students – $1.25 regular price, 30 cents for students who qualify for reduced meal prices
  • Lunch for all students – $2.00 regular price, 40 cents for students who qualify for reduced meal prices

Transportation
Bus pick-up schedules will be mailed to parents before the first day of school. If bus pick-up schedules have not been delivered or for questions about transportation, please use the following numbers to contact the appropriate transportation department:

  • Transportation Central – 601-960-8919
  • Transportation North – 601-987-3587
  • Transportation South – 601-960-5404

School Supplies
Be reminded that students are required to have a library card in addition to other school supplies. School supply lists for lower and upper elementary students are published on this JPS web site. Students in JPS middle and high schools will receive school supply lists from each teacher at orientation or after the first day of school.

Summer Reading
Each student returning to JPS has summer reading assignments to complete. The summer reading list is posted on the JPS Summer Reading page, and the books are available in local libraries and bookstores. For more information, please call (601) 960-8302. Books can also be purchased at the Enochs Family Resource Center at 101 Near Street. You may call the center at (601) 960-8945.
