United Way of the Capital Area led a campaign to collect uniforms for metro-area students. Belk department stores provided significant support, including donating 3,000 uniforms and hosting the United Way's "Top of Class" drive held Saturday, August 11, 2012.
“It is our sincere desire that through the Belk school uniform program, we boost a child’s self-esteem, removing what could be a roadblock on their path to learning. Belk is honored to partner with United Way of the Capital Area who shares the belief that this is an investment in a young mind and the future,” said Jessica Graham, Vice President Communications and Community Relations, Belk, Inc.
Jackson Public Schools received a share of the donated uniforms along with schools in nearby Canton and Pearl. The Partners in Education office of Jackson Public Schools and its volunteers sorted uniforms by size and distributed them to the uniform closets of JPS elementary and middle schools. Partners in Education will also stock a uniform closet at its recently opened Partners in Educator store for future needs.
