2012-2013 JPS Board Officers Named

The Jackson Public Schools Board of Trustees named 2012-2013 officers during a regular meeting held in April 2012. Monica Gilmore-Love replaced Kisiah W. Nolan as president. Linda F. Rush replaced Gilmore-Love as vice president and Tim Collins replaced Linda Rush as secretary. The JPS Board elects officers from its members each year.

Monica Gilmore-Love, President, Board of Trustees, Jackson Public Schools

Monica Gilmore-LoveMonica Gilmore-Love has been elected the president of the Jackson Public Schools' Board of Trustees where she represents Ward 1. Mrs. Gilmore-Love is a 20-year veteran of the environmental consulting business and currently works for a national environmental and geotechnical consulting firm. Mrs. Gilmore-Love holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University and is a former student of the pre-engineering program at Alcorn State University. She is an alumnus of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership's Leadership Jackson program (Class of 2009-2010), a graduate of the Parents for Public Schools' Parent Leadership Institute, and the 2009 Volunteer of the Year for the City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Gilmore-Love is the mother of three children who attend JPS schools and is an active member of Anderson United Methodist Church where she assists with the church's communication ministry and Girl Scout troop. She is an alumnus of the Gamma Phi and Lambda Eta Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Alcorn State University and Mississippi State University, respectively, and has served as an officer or is a member of the PTSA at both McWillie and Power APAC elementary schools and Chastain Middle School.

Linda F. Rush, Vice President, Board of Trustees, Jackson Public Schools

Linda F. RushLinda F. Rush has been elected vice president of the Jackson Public Schools' Board of Trustees where she represents Ward 6. She is married to Dr. Timothy W. Rush, and they are the parents of two children – Tim II and Isaiah. She has served 20 years as a PTSA advocate and is a member of College Hill Baptist Church, where she serves as youth director. She is a lifetime member of the local and national Jackson State University Alumni Association and a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Rush is a member of the Siwell Middle School PTSA, which has previously held the distinction of having the largest PTSA membership in Mississippi.

Tim Collins, Secretary, Board of Trustees, Jackson Public Schools

Tim CollinsTim Collins has been elected secretary of the Jackson Public Schools' Board of Trustees where he represents Ward 5. Mr. Collins is married to the former Tammie Holden, and he has a son, Darion, and a stepson, Howard. Mr. Collins currently serves as the executive director of the Mississippi Housing Partnership. He holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications and a master of public policy and administration degree from Jackson State University. During his graduate studies, he interned with the Mississippi Institute for Small Towns and the Jackson Metro Housing Partnership (now the Mississippi Housing Partnership). Mr. Collins is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Jackson and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the North Jackson Rotary Club. He also serves on the Governance Council of Catholic Charities, Inc., Diocese of Jackson, and the Board of Directors for Partners to End Homelessness, and as a part of the leadership team for the Coalition for a Prosperous Mississippi. He and his family attend the New Galilean M. B. Church.
