Partners in Education

Jackson Public Schools understands that community involvement is a vital component for successful schools. JPS values participation from businesses, civic organizations, faith groups, government agencies, and individuals. Partners in Education connects schools with the community through several programs.

The Adopter/Partner (Adopt-A-School) program is an opportunity for businesses and organizations and their employees to priovide for some of the needs of one specific school. All activities in a partnership are based on mutual needs and the resources of the school and adopters. The partnership is a commitment of one year with a plan to be involved in several program areas such as student achievement, student incentives, teacher appreciation, character development, career exploration, school improvements, and community services.

Becoming a Specialty Partner allows the community group to make a one time contribution of funds or volunteer hours to a particular project. This project can be at one school or at several.

Individuals who wish to become involved with students directly can become a Book Buddy with a student in kindergarten through third grade and read aloud to the student once a week.

Anyone wanting to become a mentor with a student can work through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and JPS to become a child's mentor.

For those friends of JPS and Partners in Education who wish to make donations of goods and services or financial contributions to schools the Donor Partner program has been established. Donations to schools can be made by contacting the school's principal. Donations for the district-wide Partners in Education program can be made by contacting Rebecca Starling or 601-960-8905.

Volunteers are needed at all schools to perform various tasks.  If you would like to volunteer at a school you may contact the school directly or call the Partners in Education office at 960-8905.

For more information about the Partners in Education program, or to learn more about becoming involved with a JPS school, student or project, contact Rebecca Starling, or call 601-960-8905.
