Partners in Education

Jackson Public Schools understands that community involvement is a vital component for successful schools. JPS values participation from businesses, civic organizations, faith groups, government agencies, and individuals. Partners in Education connects schools with the community through several programs.

The Adopter/Partner (Adopt-A-School) program is an opportunity for businesses and organizations and their employees to support and encourage one specific school. All activities in a partnership are based on mutual needs and the resources of the school and adopters. The partnership is a commitment of one year with a plan to be involved in several program areas such as student achievement, student incentives, teacher appreciation, character development, career exploration, school improvements, and community services.

A community group that makes a one time contribution of funds or volunteer hours to a particular project is called a Specialty Partner.  The contribution may be to one school or to several.

Individuals who wish to become involved with students directly can become a Book Buddy with a student in kindergarten through third grade and read aloud to the student once a week.

Anyone wanting to become a mentor with a student can work through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and JPS to become a child's mentor.

For those friends of JPS and Partners in Education who wish to make donations of goods and services or financial contributions to a specific school, contact Partners in Education or the school's principal. Refer to the Schools' Supply List or the Schools' Wish List for ideas of what is needed.

Volunteers are very important people in JPS. They are VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools). If you would like to volunteer at a school, you may contact the school directly or call the Partners in Education office at 960-8905.

For more information about the Partners in Education program, or to learn more about becoming involved with a JPS school, student or project, e-mail Rebecca Starling, or call 601-960-8905.
