  • Read Across America Week

    This "Read Across America Week" students were given the opportunity to sharpen their reading skills by participating in a variety of Dr. Seuss activities. Students also, expressed their love for reading by dressing up as a character from one their favorite books and were awarded medals and certificates for outstanding reading performance in Accelerated Reading.

  • Women Empowering Girls' Breakfast

    "We Look To You" was the theme of the George Elementary- Women Empowering Girls' Breakfast. Cassandra Welchlin was the guest speaker. Other invited special guests included Miss Black Mississippi, school adopters, and community volunteers.

  • District Completes Study for School Consolidation

    The increased costs of maintaining aged school buildings, a decrease in state funding and a decline in enrollment have led the Jackson Public School District to study the feasibility of consolidating some of its schools.

  • Students Helping Others Planet-Wide

    Each year Jackson Public Schools' gifted students participate in a program entitled S.H.O.P. Students enjoy having the opportunity to get involved in a service learning project. This year, the Open Doors gifted students took on the task of collecting dog and cat food from the George Elementary community, for the Community Animal Rescue and Adoption shelter known as C.A.R.A.

  • Why We Strive for Less Than 5

    Did you know that poor school attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade and that chronic absence becomes a factor in a student’s decision to drop out of school as early as the sixth grade?

  • College Spirit Week

    Touch a Truck activity- On Thursday, September 15, 2016 we celebrated Community Helpers Day as part of our College Spirit Week activities. Scholars dressed for the community helper that they would like to be in the future.

  • G.E.N.T.S Program

    Grooming and Empowering Noble, Talented, Scholars-We have implemented a G.E.N.T.S. program to teach our boys how to develop into young men. Every other week, our boys in grades 3-5 are introduced to a topic from Principal Kafela’s Message to Your Son.

    This "Read Across America Week" students were given the opportunity to sharpen their reading skills by participating in a variety of Dr. Seuss activities. The activities included Reading Comprehension Scavenger Hunt, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish math station, Dr. Seuss B-I-N-G-O listening station, Dr. Seuss Wheel of Fortune spelling station, Barthologmew and the Oobleck Slime creation station and Dr. Seuss read-aloud station. Students also expressed their love for reading by dressing up as a character from one their favorite books and were awarded medals and certificates for outstanding reading performance in Accelerated Reading.
